Ritual for the New Moon
New Moon Ritual
The new moon is a blank page, a fresh start, a moment to turn inward and consider what we want to call into our lives and what we need to let go of. It is the energetic time to get still and plant new seeds of desire. It’s also a great time to breathe new life into any area of stagnation or any place in your life where you would like to impact positive change.
Ritual can be done solo, with a partner or as a group. Consider gathering your posse of moon lovers and make a night of it together.
How to Begin:
1. Set the container
Before engaging in any ritual, clean and organize the space where you’ll be. Straightening up and getting rid of clutter sets the tone for the ceremony. Light a candle, maybe turn on soothing music, and clear energy with clapping, drumming, incense, palo santo or sage.
Next, take a moment to acknowledge the original inhabitants of the land, as well as the land itself that your home or building is sitting upon.
And keep a few pieces of sacred paper and a pen on hand for writing.
2. Connect
Close your eyes, with hands resting on the knees and open palms facing the sky. Find your breath and follow it with your mind. Call upon your unique connection to source energy. For some, it feels good to call upon ancestors, guides, angels, ascended masters, animal spirit, or any other support. Or, you can just sit with your breath and your own inner guru.
Another way to bring deep connection is to acknowledge the four elements: air, fire, water, and earth. Each one correlates with a direction on the medicine wheel; East, South, West, and North. Lastly, a nod to the Sun and Moon honor the energy of the divine masculine and the divine feminine.
3. Vision/dream and write.
Begin to visualize the future and the life of your dreams, without thoughts about how to accomplish your goals, instead go straight to the outcome in your mind. See what it is you desire: the partner, the home and career, the bank account, the travel and the relationships and lifestyle. Take time with each, seeing and feeling yourself in this life. Feel the joy and gratitude for the life you’ve created.
Now, gently wake yourself from this dreamy state and begin to write down the things in your life you either wish to call in or are ready to release. You can be specific or more general, just be crystal clear that you know, without a doubt what this means. Practice stating what you want, not what you don’t want, i.e. “I feel calm and present.” rather than saying, “I don’t want to feel anxious.”
Set the intention to stay open to receive and allow these experiences and elements into your life.
You can even sign it if you want; a contract between you and the universe.
4. Speak it into being.
The next step is to read your desires out loud. Speaking them out loud plays a crucial role in bringing them to life. Pay attention to the emotions you feel when speaking the words aloud, feeling and emotion are important keys to manifestation.
5. Declare.
Take a moment to declare “In this rebirth portal of the new moon, I step into the flow and allow the Universe to deliver to me all that is in my highest good. I welcome in the new.”
6. Be.
Sit in silence, for as long as you like, writings in hand. Feel the joy in knowing what your future holds and express gratitude to the Universe for providing you the tools necessary to create that life for yourself.
7. End your ritual.
End your ceremony by blowing out the candles if you’ve lit some and thanking yourself for creating the space. You can keep your writings, bury them in the earth or burn them carefully and safely.
